When you hear the word “ultramarathon”, you imagine gritty runners, long roads, early mornings… yet nothing quite prepares you for the feat achieved by 14‑year‑old Emily Paton in October 2025. Over five consecutive days, Emily ran five ultramarathons – a total of 250 km (155 miles+) – to raise vital awareness and funds for ABC Jersey.
Her Mission
A Year 10 student at Jersey College for Girls, Emily is no stranger to physical challenges – having previously completed a 100 km run and the “Goggins Challenge”. But this time, she aimed even higher:
- 28 October – 1 November: Five days, five runs of approximately 50 km each.
- Every step in support of Islanders affected by breast cancer.
“In my training… there have been times where you think to yourself ‘I’d much rather stay in bed’. But it’s a reminder that some people can’t even walk 100 metres and would do anything to get moving again.” – Emily (as quoted by Channel 103) channel103.com+1
She’s Not Doing It Alone
Emily’s team included her mum, dedicated supporters, and her own inner drive. And she put the island on notice – this was more than a run, it was a message.
At the Finish Line
When Emily crossed that final kilometre, the cheers were loud. She spoke to BBC Radio Jersey at the finish line, reflecting on what it meant to run for something bigger than herself. (Link to full interview: https://www.bbc.co.uk/sounds/play/p0mdf538)
Why It Matters
- The funds Emily raised will help ABC Jersey continue providing emotional, practical, and financial support to Islanders facing breast cancer.
- Her challenge also shone a spotlight on early‑detection, one of the most powerful weapons in the fight against breast cancer.
Our Heartfelt Thanks
Thank you to Emily for her courage, tenacity and heart. Every kilometre she ran, every sweat‑drop and every cheer‑along helped make a difference. And to every person who supported her – by donating, training, sharing her journey, or simply shouting encouragement – you are part of this too.
What’s Next?
Emily’s journey is an inspiration. It reminds us all that age is no barrier to impact – and that community support makes monumental feats possible. She’s set a benchmark for what’s possible this Pink October.
