Meet Laura
Let me introduce myself, my name is Georgina Connor, I specialise in exercise rehabilitation. I have always had a passion for exercise, I love how beneficial it is to everyone and realised I could help people by prescribing exercise.
I attended LJMU to achieve a BSc (Hons) in Exercise Science. During university, I realised how beneficial exercise would be specifically to those diagnosed with cancer. At the time, my auntie had terminal cancer. A woman who had been so active, had no one on-island qualified and insured to take her for a class or even an individual session. This is where the drive came from, I wanted this not only for my auntie but for every islander with a diagnosis no matter type, ability, age, or gender.
In 2016, I qualified as a Level 4 Cancer Rehabilitation Specialist. Since then I have been working with charities, nurses and Healthhaus to deliver various cancer classes for all islanders. The ultimate goal is that every islander from diagnosis is referred to me to assist them with their exercise options, as everyone deserves the benefits gained from exercising.
I have been working to get the word out, get the public to know who I am, what I deliver and want to achieve. I continue to keep my knowledge up to date with various courses, ‘Pink Ribbon Specialist’ which is a breast cancer Pilates course and Shoulder rehabilitation Pilates to help assist with frozen shoulder that can be a side effect from radiotherapy, for example. I will continue to try my best to deliver the best cancer service on island.
