Honouring Our Longest Serving Founding Member

SHARE

IIt is with great sadness that we share the passing of Margaret “Margie” Megaw (née Carroll), who passed away peacefully on Friday 17th April 2026, aged 93, in the loving care of the staff at Maison St Brelade.

Remembering all the happy moments shared with a truly wonderful woman.

In 1998, when a small group of women first gathered together following a suggestion from the Hospital’s Breast Care Team, they could never have imagined the impact that meeting would one day have on the Island community.

What began as a space to share stories, worries, experiences and hope would eventually grow into what we now know as ABC Jersey – a charity that has supported countless Islanders affected by breast cancer over the past two decades.

At the very heart of those early conversations was Margie – our longest serving founding member, original breast cancer support volunteer, guiding light, and forever our “Queen in Pink.”

Margie’s vision was simple, yet incredibly powerful: to create a safe, compassionate and supportive space for anyone affected by breast cancer. A place where people would feel understood, supported and never alone.

With warmth, determination and unwavering dedication, Margie helped shape ABC Jersey from a small support group into the vibrant and trusted charity it is today. Over the years, she worked alongside volunteers, healthcare professionals and fundraisers, helping organise meetings, events, outreach initiatives and support services – always focused on making life a little easier for Islanders navigating some of their most difficult moments.

For so many people, Margie became the reassuring voice at the end of the phone, the friendly face at meetings, and the person who simply “got it.” She was someone countless Islanders turned to for guidance, comfort and knowledge. Her kindness, empathy and lived experience helped create the supportive community that ABC Jersey continues to provide today.

Affectionately known as our “Queen in Pink” 🎀, Margie was a constant source of strength, kindness and inspiration to everyone she met. Her impact on this charity — and on countless Islanders — is immeasurable.

A loving Mum, proud Grandma and Great-Grandma, and a genuinely kind friend to so many, Margie leaves behind an incredible legacy and will be deeply missed by all who knew her.

Though Margie had retired from the committee, the legacy she helped create is woven into every part of ABC Jersey. It lives on in every support meeting held, every person helped through treatment, every financial grant awarded, every hug shared, and every reminder that nobody should face breast cancer alone.

Today, ABC Jersey continues to provide practical, emotional and financial support to Islanders and their loved ones — all thanks to the foundations laid by Margie and those very first members back in 1998.

Margie, thank you for showing us what it truly means to build “A Brighter Community” – one rooted in compassion, courage, understanding and hope.

Your impact on this Island, and on so many lives, will never be forgotten. 💗
