We’re still buzzing with pride and gratitude after the incredible Medicann 5K: Your Way event, held on Sunday 4th February in honour of World Cancer Day – and raising an amazing £7,000 for ABC Jersey!
Around 200 Islanders came together to walk, run or cycle the 5K route from St Aubin to Elizabeth Ferry Kiosk, bringing not just their energy and commitment, but an unforgettable sense of fun. From giant inflatable breasts to cannabis leaf costumes, the event was full of colour, community spirit and powerful messages about health awareness and early detection.
ABC Jersey Ambassador Sarah Burns said it best:
“We are incredibly grateful to Medicann and everyone who took part in this year’s Medicann 5K. Your continued support means so much, and the funds raised will make a real difference for people in Jersey affected by breast cancer. Events like this raise vital funds, but also help bring our community together to raise awareness and show support for those who need it most.”
The event, now in its third year, was originally inspired by the late Rose Shepherd, a Medicann patient and cancer thriver, whose passion helped shape the first 5K in 2024. Her legacy continues to shine through each step taken in her memory.
Speaking about the day, ABC Jersey Chair Gary Bellot shared:
“The sun shone, and it was a wonderful day enjoyed by all. Events like this help to open conversations about breast cancer, encourage early detection, and remind people of the importance of regular screening and self-checks.”
Medicann CEO Gary Whipp, who first launched the event, added:
“The Medicann 5K is more than just a fundraiser. It’s a platform for connection, education, and community spirit – empowering people to talk about their health, share their stories, and support one another.”
From everyone at ABC Jersey:
💗 Thank you, Medicann.
💗 Thank you to every participant, donor, and volunteer.
💗 Thank you for walking, running, cycling – and showing up.
Together, you’ve helped us continue our mission to ensure that no Islander faces breast cancer alone.
